On Sunday, November 23, we met in a Caribbean restaurant in Manhattan. The program mainly focused on conviviality, the exchange of ideas, experiences and hair products (product swap), and last but not least: food!

It was very cozy. We were 20 gen. 20 women with frizzy hair and no haircut was the same. All variants on Afro's, Twists, Dreadlocks and so on. Frizzy hair remains impressively versatile. The exchange of tips and experiences went smoothly. Inspiring to try new hairstyles again.

A product swap is always fun. Instead of throwing away your bad buys from the past, give them away or trade them with someone. There is always someone who wants to try a product that you don't like, maybe that person likes it. Hair products can be compared to food; what you don't like, someone else likes.

Eating with women is always something. Nowadays everyone watches what they eat and there is always one on a diet. Except World of Curls. "You know," she said, "I've had enough of that yo-yo effect and that desperate stuff. I've got to die someday, fat and happy I'll die." Of course, after this comment, it was a lot of fun to discuss different diets afterwards.

There were a lot of digital cameras and a lot of pictures were taken. What did I have to do with David, our designated (white) waiter. He offered one of us to take a picture of the whole group. He shouldn't have done that. He got 10 cameras pressed into his hand and just clicked. When it turned out that there was a birthday boy somewhere in the restaurant, we all spontaneously started singing "happy birthday" with the other waiters. That was something to me. The birthday boy even stood up to thank us with a humble bow. Our choir sounded so good, spontaneous and pleasant.

No, we're not shouting cheese together. It was just so much fun, that's always impressive, even in a metropolis like New York. Cars stopped to wave spontaneously at us, David was almost run over. Probably never seen so many "nappy heads" in one place, and then people shouted "KEEP ON!". Of course we didn't come around anymore. All in all it was a pretty inspiring get-together, good food, learned something again and, above all, laughed. Full of anticipation I look forward to the next happy-to-be-nappy-day.
